Hypnotherapy is an extremely powerful approach that may help people affected by hair pulling, skin picking and other body-focused repetitive behaviours (BFRBs). While BFRBs often feel automatic or difficult to control, hypnotherapy aims to work with the subconscious mind, helping to reduce urges, build healthier habits and support emotional wellbeing. Many people find that hypnotherapy complements other recovery approaches by increasing self-awareness, reducing stress and strengthening confidence in their ability to make positive changes. At Trichotillomania Support, our hypnotherapy sessions are tailored to the individual, recognising that every person’s experience of a BFRB is unique.
Our hypnotherapist will quickly put you at ease, helping you to respond to urges positively.

During your hypnotherapy call you’ll remain comfortable and conscious. There is nothing you need to do while in hypnosis, although you’ll be able to participate should you wish to do so. Your hypnotherapist will talk to you gently and guide you into a deeply relaxed state. She will use carefully chosen techniques designed to support your recovery goals. Sessions are tailored to your individual needs and experiences.
No. Hypnosis is actually a state of heightened control. Most people describe the experience as being deeply relaxed while remaining aware of what is happening around them. You cannot be made to do anything against your will.
Yes, hypnotherapy can be extremely effective for children and young people.
This varies from person to person. Almost everybody notices some benefits after a single session. Hypnotherapy for BFRBs is temporary without relapse prevention work, though and most people also benefit from at least ten sessions. We highly recommend three-monthly top-ups or our Aftercare program to continue.
