Comprehensive Treatment for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs)
Hair-pulling, eyelash or eyebrow pulling, cheek-chewing, teeth grinding or jaw clenching (bruxism), skin-picking, nail-biting, finger-biting or lip-picking? Perhaps just splitting hair ends?
Other BFRBs: It is very difficult to get understanding, specialist care for a variety of other body-focused repetitive behaviours, as most therapists are trained to follow generic treatment plans such as CBT. We have trained the coaches at Coaching.Care, and recruited coaches with BFRBs themselves. In addition to BFRBS, we specialise in Body Dysmorphia, ADHD, Social Anxiety, Insomnia, OCD and tics.
It should be noted that we regard the management of all these conditions as “being in recovery” and not cure. This is why we remain here for the whole family, for LIFE.
On this page, we’ll list some of the Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs) we’re well-versed in. We understand the challenges these conditions can present, and we’re here to help you find effective solutions and support
Conditions we can help
Splitting Hair Ends: Compulsively splitting the ends of your hair? Look no further, we can help you.
Hair-Pulling (Trichotillomania): We offer a variety of different treatment plans to help you manage and overcome the urge to pull out hair.
Eyelash or Eyebrow Pulling: Eyelash and eyebrow pulling is a unique form of trichotillomania which needs very different treatment. Counselling techniques usually do not work in this case. We have the expertise to help.
Cheek-Chewing: The habit of chronic cheek-chewing is especially frustrating as so often it is entirely unconscious. Using relaxation recordings and self-esteem boosting exercises, we can help you manage and reduce the chewing.
Teeth Grinding or Jaw Clenching (Bruxism): Another difficult condition to treat, which needs specialist understanding and people who have themselves reached recovery. We can help and urge you to get in touch.
Skin-Picking (Dermatillomania): Kerri, our expert in this field, has faced this condition herself and can use the skills she discovered during her recovery to guide you to give up those zone out times of searching for bumps or breakages in your skin.
Nail-Biting: We offer supportive strategies to help you break the cycle of nail-biting and improve your own feelings of well-being.
Finger-Biting: Effective treatments can help you stop biting your fingers. We have been through this situation and understand the tension and release involved.
Lip picking: Effective care for the distressing BFRB of picking at lips, helping you to reach a state of improved overall emotional health and physical well-being.
How We Help
We have built up a comprehensive and strategic training course for all coaches, who all have BFRBs. Our treatment plans are gentle, compassionate and use a holistic approach to treat BFRBs. There is a balance of evidence-based therapies, patient-led treatment plans, physical and emotional support to help you manage and overcome BFRBs. The framework looks like this:
- Assessment and understanding: During your first appointment, we will ask a number of questions designed to evaluate your BFRB. You will get to know your coach, who will create a tailored treatment plan.
- Individual Treatment Plans: Customised strategies targeting your unique circumstances, tailored to best possible recovery goals.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Proven therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Habit Reversal Training (HRT), to help you manage and reduce BFRB symptoms.
- Ongoing Support: Continuous support and Aftercare resources help you stay on track and maintain pick freedom.
